Ram girls still looking for hoops win

The search for the season’s first win is still underway for the Greene County girls basketball team after going 0-3 last week.

The Greene County girls hosted number five ranked Roland-Story on Jan. 23 with the Rams falling 65-12. Ella Shipley scored five points for Greene County with Makenna Ebersole scoring three and Emma Shipley adding two. Ebersole led in rebounds with nine, Payton Kokenge was credited with five and Emma Shipley added three to the team total. Foul trouble and missed baskets did the Rams no favors.

Team stats: FG 5/23; 3PT 1/8; Effective field goal percentage 23.9%; FT 1/7; Rebounds 25; Assists 2; Steals 4; Blocks 5; Turnovers 42; Fouls 13.

The team traveled to Nevada on Friday to face the 9-7 Cubs, the Rams sticking close throughout the night, but ultimately falling 55-47. Becca Anderson, playing in her first Ram varsity game after completing an ineligibility period due to her open enrollment from Paton-Churdan, found success in her shots, scoring 20 points for the team. Anderson and Kokenge grabbed seven rebounds each, with Kaycee Pittman leading in assists with five.

On Saturday, the Rams traveled to Manson Northwest Webster High School, falling 58-35 to the Cougars. The teams were tied 28-28 at halftime, but the Rams were unable to build a lead in the back half of the game. No stats were available for the game.
